My customer encountered the above error flag while trying to logon to a particular Windows 7 workstation this morning. Investigation shows that some other users can logon successfully while she couldn't logon. Futher examinations on Windows 7 registry revealed that show that user's profile has been damaged with (.bak) extension.
Resolution:
- Logon using local Administrator credential
- Locate and open "Users" directory path
- Rename affected user profile
- Load Windows 7 registry editor(regedit.exe)
- Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
- Right-click on ProfileList folder(Key) then click Find
- Type affected username and click on "Find Next" command button
- Right Click then delete the affected user key
Restart the terminal and ask the user to logon again.
