Kudos!!! APC condemns devaluation of naira

The National Publicity Secretary of The All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday in Abuja told newsmen that the devaluation of currency had its implications on the people and the economy.

Mohammed said that the party had always warned government about the implication of its economic policies.

He said that the party warned government that the cost of producing oil in Nigeria was the highest and raised the alarm on organized theft of crude oil.

“We went further to advise the government to diversify our economy.

We gave example that while Angola and Brazil have reinvested in new deposit to about 40 per cent, Nigeria had only invested about two per cent.

New Deal!! Firefox will use Yahoo as its default search engine

This is a five-year deal in which Yahoo will launch a new search experience for Firefox users in the US while at the same time Firefox makes the switch away from Google.

According to techcrunch,

The Mozilla Foundation has long made most of its money through its search partnership with Google, which has always been the default in Firefox. Indeed, in 2012 — the last year we have data from — 88% of Mozilla’s income came from Google. That contract with Google was set to expire this year, though, and it look like either Yahoo made an offer Mozilla couldn’t refuse or Google decided to walk away from the deal.

Yahoo Search, in its current form, is powered by Microsoft Bing, of course, though the company heavily modifies the results it gets from Microsoft, both in terms of layout and ranking. There have long been rumors that Yahoo could end this deal and bring back its own search engine, but that seems unlikely given the investment the company would have to make after it dismantled its old search engine infrastructure.

This partnership with Firefox will surely give Yahoo — and Microsoft — a stronger presence in the search market, however. While Firefox usage has declined over the last few years, it still accounts for at least 15% of the U.S. browser market. Yahoo currently owns about 10% of the U.S. search engine market. Switching the default back to Google only takes a few seconds, but most users will likely stick with the default.

Lawmaker appeals for U.S. arms to fight Boko Haram

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Civil Society and Donor Agencies, Prof Ini Udoka, urged the U.S. Government to urgently supply arms to the Nigeria military to effectively fight Boko Haram terrorists.

He spoke during the signing of 9.2 million dollars grant to 15 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria by the U.S. Government.

Vanguard reported that;

The legislator said it was worrisome that the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle had been credited as saying that the U.S may not be able to sell arms to Nigeria.

According to Udoka, Entwistle was reported as saying that this was due to alleged human rights abuses by the Nigerian military.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the government of the United States to reconsider the stance on the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.

“This morning, we received very sad news that many students of Comprehensive School in Potiskum have been slaughtered by a suicide bomber during the morning devotion.

“We know that the assistance of the U.S. in combating insurgency in Nigeria would help us to a large extent to curb some of these atrocities.’’

The lawmaker thanked the U.S. government for the grant to civil society groups and challenged the grantees to live up to expectations reposed in them.
